EU Delegation to the UK
Inaugural EU-UK floriculture and horticulture sector gathering at Europe House, putting the SPS Agreement conversation in front of the industry leaders who would be affected by it.

The EU Delegation's inaugural Flowers and Plants of Europe event opened Europe Month at Europe House on 29 April 2026. Our role was the supporting work that lets a small-but-pointed industry event punch above its weight: helping organise the day so the right voices from the floriculture and horticulture sector were in the room at the moment the SPS Agreement conversation needed them.
The challenge
Floriculture and horticulture is one of the most visibly Brexit-affected sectors in the UK economy. Over 90% of plants and materials imported to the UK come from the EU, and the goods are perishable, which makes border friction immediate and operational rather than abstract. The Delegation needed the inaugural sector gathering to land as substantive, not symbolic.
The goal · One locked behavioural outcome
“Land the inaugural sector gathering at Europe House with the right industry leadership in the room to make the upcoming SPS Agreement conversation visible and credible.”
Every framework applied below served this single sentence. Direction, Meaning, Expression and Activation all gated on whether they advanced it.
The intelligence
An SPS Agreement reducing paperwork and border checks was expected by the next EU-UK summit. The event was timed to put that conversation in front of the trade associations and major importers who would have to operate the new arrangement. Inaugural sector events at Europe House live on industry credibility: who is on the panel matters more than the agenda itself.
The strategy
Direction locked on industry leadership presence as the day's actual measure of success. Activation prioritised securing the right trade-association voices alongside the EU Delegation's senior representatives and DEFRA, with the visual programme (EU and Union flag floral displays, member-state showcases) carrying the celebratory register without softening the trade conversation.

The work
Event organising support across the day: showcase coordination with exhibitors from the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and the UK, panel integration, and the operational work to land the inaugural at Europe House.
Outcomes
The inaugural event delivered at Europe House on 29 April 2026. EU Ambassador Pedro Serrano opened. DEFRA Director General for EU and Reset Emma Bourne addressed the audience. The panel, moderated by the EU Delegation's First Counsellor for Agriculture and Food Annette Kliemann, included senior representatives from the Horticultural Trade Association, Royal Anthos, AVBS and Union Fleur. The SPS Agreement positioned as the next-summit milestone for reducing border friction in a £1.7 billion UK sector that supports 722,000 jobs. The event opened Europe Month.
